000 ABPZ30 KNHC 011503 TWSEP Monthly Tropical Weather Summary NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 800 AM PDT Fri Oct 1 2021 For the eastern North Pacific, east of 140 degrees west longitude: Only one tropical cyclone formed in the month of September in the eastern Pacific basin. Olaf became a hurricane and made landfall near San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. The formation of one hurricane during the month is below the long-term (1991-2020) averages of three named storms, two hurricanes, and one major hurricane for September. Despite the lack of activity in September, the number of named storms (15) in the basin so far in 2021 is slightly above the long-term average (13) through the end of the month. In terms of Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE), which measures the strength and duration of tropical storms and hurricanes, the season to date is slightly below the long-term (1991-2020) average.
