000 ABPZ30 KNHC 011506 TWSEP Monthly Tropical Weather Summary NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 800 AM PDT Mon Nov 1 2021 For the eastern North Pacific, east of 140 degrees west longitude: Two tropical cyclones formed in October in the eastern Pacific basin (Pamela and Rick), and both became hurricanes that made landfall on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Based on a 30-year climatology (1991-2020), two named storms typically form in October, with one of them becoming a hurricane. A major hurricane tends to form in October every one to two years. In terms of Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE), which measures the strength and duration of tropical storms and hurricanes, the season to date is 10 to 15 percent below the long-term (1991-2020) average. The number of named storms (17) in the basin so far in 2021 is slightly above the long-term average (15) through the end of the month.
