000 ABPZ30 KNHC 011420 TWSEP Monthly Tropical Weather Summary NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 800 AM PDT Mon Aug 1 2022 For the eastern North Pacific, east of 140 degrees west longitude: Four tropical cyclones formed in the basin during the month of July and one additional one (Bonnie) moved into the basin from the Atlantic. Of the five tropical cyclones, four became hurricanes of which two (Bonnie and Darby) became major hurricanes. Aside from Bonnie which crossed Central America, the remaining tropical cyclones remained offshore. The number of named storms (8) in the basin so far in 2022 is ahead of the long-term average through July and the number of hurricanes (6) is well ahead of average for this time of year. In terms of Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE), which measures the combined strength and duration of tropical storms and hurricanes, 2022 is running more than 70 percent above the long-term (1991-2020) average so far.
